When it first released, people did not even know if the cube was solvable. After some time with people figuring it out, people began figuring the cube out and solving it. With this came people timing themselves to see how fast they can complete the cube. They eventually had competitions to see who could do the cube the fastest. The original world record was around 20 seconds. The world record now is around 3 seconds. This shows that not only have people gotten better at solving them, companies have produced cubes that make solving them even faster.
